Ankur Chatterjee: An arms manufacturing and smuggling racket has been busted by the Punjab Police with the arrest of two Madhya Pradesh residents, DGP Gaurav Yadav claimed on Friday

The Counter Intelligence Unit of Punjab Police with the help of MP Police apprehended the duo from Madhya Pradesh.

The racket was involved in large-scale manufacturing of arms and their supply to Punjab as well as to other states.

Bhorelal alias Manish Bade of village Ratwa in Khargon and Kailash Mal Singh of village Dutt Pahari in Burhanpur district were arrested.

The police recovered 55 pistols of .32 calibre firearms from their possession.

According to DGP Yadav, the development comes three weeks after the Counter Intelligence Unit detained two people in Amritsar after discovering four firearms in their possession.

On August 10, an FIR was registered in Amritsar under several provisions of the IPC and the Arms Act, he claimed.

He stated that during the investigation of backward and forward links, it was discovered that the confiscated guns were supplied by an interstate illegal weapons manufacturing and supplier suspected of being situated in the Madhya Pradesh area of Burhanpur.

“Following these inputs, a 15-member team of Counter Intelligence, Amritsar led by Inspector Inderdeep Singh was sent to MP on Tuesday and the team managed to trace and apprehend these two arms suppliers on Thursday,” he said.

According to the DGP, the operation is still ongoing, and there is a great possiblility that more rifles and ammunition will be recovered.

The Punjab Police said in a statement that it has taken a proactive approach to disrupt these illicit weapons and drug supply networks at their source in order to rid the state of crime and drugs.
